The Breed

There are many theories as to the origins of the Bearded Collie.  What is certain is that the breed was commonly used as a herding dog in the highlands of Scotland, since it had the intelligence and bold spirit to venture into the mountains to bring sheep down to the farm by itself on occasion.  The breed almost died out in the early part of the 20th century and was revived after the second world war by Mrs G. O. Willison, whose kennel, Bothkennar forms the foundation for almost all the Bearded Collies we see today.

Beardies are a fun loving, energetic breed, well suited to families and owners who have the time to exercise them both physically and mentally.

Our Background

Our first Beardie was Max. He arrived in 1993 and was lightly shown in the UK.  Max was followed by Holly (Kilfinan Hillmaid at Chetcote), our foundation bitch, who was shown to several best puppy's at Championship level in the UK and received her UK stud book number before retiring.

Since then we have shown beardies in the UK until moving to Canada in 2002, where we have shown and bred several Canadian Champions, including Ch Kilfinan Country Craft of Chetcote (Harry), Ch Chetcote Cottage Rose (Rosie) Ch Chetcote Dotties Dream (Dottie), Ch.Chetcote Little Miss  Sunshine, Ch. Chetcote  Renaissance, Ch. Chetcote the Stargazer and  Ch. Artisan Forest Frost at Chetcote.

Google "Chetcote" and you will see several of our show successes!
